WHO SAID CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA HOLDERS CAN'T STUDY ABROAD?

2023 is at the door knocking with loads of opportunities! Could this be your year of luck? Kei is about to blow your mind with good news. Be on the lookout. If you had a chance to skim through my previous article, you have come across the MEXT scholarship program. Worry not if you still need to read it; you can go back and check it out. Please look at what you stand to gain from—a fully-funded scholarship. I am sure Santa already spoilt you with gifts, but some more won't hurt.

Today I have some solutions to some of the dilemmas you are going through in search of green pastures. Should I be 25 years and below to get a scholarship? Wait, must I have an undergraduate degree to join one of the most prestigious universities in Japan? The answer to both questions is NO!!

What is a teachers' training scholarship?

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international teachers who wish to research school education at designated Japanese universities as Teacher Training Students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.

Who Qualifies?

While there are many scholarships that you must meet minimum age and education level requirements, the teacher's training fully funded scholarship in Japan is exceptional. You don't need a university degree; yes, I said it. All you need is a certificate or diploma in teaching from a recognized institution. Besides that, you need five years of teaching experience at either the primary or secondary level. Ooh, I mentioned age, and for those interested in the 2023 program, you can apply as long as you are 34 years and below. Sounds good.

How to apply

The application details are available on your home country's respective Embassy of Japan website. For more information, you can also visit their official social media platform or physical offices.

What do you require?

  1. Original and copy of duly- filled application form(available at the official Japan Embassy Website)
  2. Copy of Placement Preference Application form to choose your desired university ( available at the official Japan Embassy Website)
  3. Original and copy of Certified grade transcript for each academic year from the last university/ teacher training school attended
  4. Original and copy of diploma from the previous university/ teacher training school attended
  5. Original and copy of Certificate of employment from present employer
  6. Original and copy of Recommendation letter from the immediate supervisor at work
  7. Original and copy of Medical Certificate (Use 2023 format provided by the Embassy)
  8. *Certificate of Japanese language ability(Applicable if you have proof you studied Japanese Language before)
  9. A passport photo 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm( with name and nationality written on the back)

When is the deadline?

Even if you miss the points above, please remember the deadline. 😐Time is essential, and so is your new beginning. The 2023 program applications period begins on 5th January up on 10th February. Please note that dates may differ slightly in some embassies.

Tips to keep

  • The Embassy provides free information through its social media handles (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Since you need permission from your employer, it's important to seek approval as soon as possible, as delays may deny you opportunities.
  • Other essential details missing in this article are available on the website.
  • All forms will be submitted in triplicate and not stapled.
  • You must submit the complete application and documents at the Embassy before the deadline.

Information is power, and you have the ability in your hands to make that change happen. While this information may sound attractive, not all may meet the threshold. Please share it with your family and loved ones as a new year's gift. Lastly, evidence shows that ambiguity is a significant cause of miscommunication. In that regard, feel free to drop a comment and seek clarity. I wish you all the best!!

  4. Thank you for your comment. To answer your question: 1. The Embassy will make a direct phone call to invite you for an interview if you pass the document and exam screening. Interviews are based on the documents you submitted and have a lot of emphasis on the research plan.
