New year's Resolution Companion You Should Keep!!

The countdown has begun, and hurray, 2022, is about to go down! Count your fingers, and, yeah, it is four days left. I feel excited and same time, anxious, a mixed feeling. What does 2023 have to offer? Myriads of thoughts blow up my mind.

A cup of green tea (お茶)would probably suffice to harmonize the views. But no! I must settle my train of thought and derive an ideal goal. I bet you are in the same boat as I am and most likely skimming through the article for some solutions. The thought of growing older not only frightens us but also imprisons our feelings. Uncertainties render our brain cells captives, and the fear of Limbo puts salt in the wound.

Since we all have diverse expectations, goals, and worldviews, I will categorize the resolutions into six crucial human aspects. In my previous article, I mentioned the Ikigai (いきがい) principles. Pat yourself at the back if you remember. If you have forgotten (it's okay), you can go back and have a quick look at it. Let us examine some career plans you can explore to shape your dream.

1. Career

I am not a career coach or career counselor; however, I found these fantastic ideas worth summarizing. It may come more effortlessly to some and to others, an uphill. Don't press yourself so hard; remember they are just resolutions. Here is a simple outline to consider.

  • Start own business
  • Invest in education (doesn't mean a degree, it could be an online or onsite skill)
  • Aim for a promotion(if employed)
  • Change career
  • Take up a unique project
  • Develop a work balance(family, vocation,career)
2. Personal growth

The second attribute was a challenging section to exhaust, owing to our diversities, but thanks to the existing literature. Regardless, I may have omitted some valuable points that matter to you; I beg your pardon. I acknowledge that human beings are unique, and so are their personas.

  • Create a self-care routine (meditation, Yoga, detox)
  • Do acts of kindness( bring a smile to someone, no one is too rich that he can never receive, and no one is too poor to give)
  • Set achievable goals(SMART)
  • Celebrate small wins ( even failure is part of progress)
  • Be with people you love and love you back.
  • Read a good book( articles like this one too)
  • Take a healthy break from social media.
  • Captivate your self-confident
  • A trip to a destination of choice
  • Spiritual growth(soul-search)
  • Break a bad habit(procrastination)

3. Financial

I wish I were a professional financial advisor to emphasize financial matters. However, I am not too useless; I can recommend you to my financial experts (Investment and Insurance gurus). I hope that brings a smile to your face. We are all familiar with saving and investment, and I can't overemphasize the same. Take a glace and remind yourself once more as the new year approach.

  • Start budgeting (before inflation catches up with you)
  • Invest more money
  • Save more money
  • Spend wisely(o
f course, cheat days are allowed)
  • Clear your bad debts (not all debts are bad)

4. Relationships

Depending on our backgrounds, the definition and understanding of relationships may vary, but the general idea I mention here applies to many of us. Do you find something relatable, or is it too obvious? It's good practice to make some memos at this juncture.

  • Evaluate your social capital(if you need help, how many people can respond?)
  • Make time for family and good friends
  • Establish meaningful connections/networks
  • Keep comfort zone at a bay
  • Make clear your boundaries (Learn to say no)
  • Keep negativity a step further
  • Let go of toxic people unapologetically

5. Health and Fitness

Medics and nutritionists come and rescue me! Despite my poor Biology grades in high school, courtesy of my hilarious teacher (I focused on humor and lost the point), I think it is essential to :

  • Do exercise often
  • Maintain a healthy diet (Medical bills are too expensive)
  • Create a meal plan(you don't have to be a professional chef)
  • Try new workouts
  • Watch your Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Catch some good sleep (not more than 8 hrs)

6. Vocation and Hobbies

How many points have you written so far? I hope these articles bring out the best of you. Remember the Ikigai? Do you recall passion or doing what you love? I enjoy discussing hobbies as I get a chance to listen to people's weirdest hobbies. It's unbelievable; even in graduate school, my friend mentioned sleeping as a hobby. In my most bizarre dream, how is that even possible with all the workload ahead? Don't mind them; it's just a hobby anyway. The guide below will help you maximize your interests and make the best of your enthusiasm.

  • Learn a new hobby( could be language, DIY)
  • Find people you share hobbies with( a community of hobbies)
  • Make your hobby perfect
  • Monetize your hobby
  • Give back to the community

Do you feel better after discovering some fantastic things you can start with as we approach the new year? (We call it starters-pack). I might have yet to exhaust all the points, and I am sure you have exceptional ideas to add to the list; kindly feel free to comment below. I wish you a happy new year and a fruitful 2023!
