5 Must-Have Tools for Successful Thesis Writing
5 Must-Have Tools for Successful Thesis Writing😃
You may have seen millions of blogs, watched videos, and searched on the internet about how to write a successful thesis. As students, we often need help to complete a two or three-year graduate program. Most often, we get worried when it comes to thesis writing. Drawing from personal experience, thesis writing is a nightmare. Even those of us who enjoy writing sometimes need some bit of motivation.
You are not alone; we all have experienced different stress levels. As bright as you are, sometimes gathering content for more than 20,000 words is just cumbersome. With technology, some tedious jobs have become easy such as creating beautiful presentations using canvas (I will describe more later).
Despite the tech and expertise at our disposal, we agree that writing a thesis is a tedious journey. If luck is not on your side, supervisors can make your life unbearable when you have thousands of corrections to make. You want to write a thesis as a pro. Look no further!! I will keep mentoring you in every step of your thesis/project.
My blog derives motivation from the struggles that students go through. My friends always request me to offer a hand in compiling the literature review, which I gladly help. This article will give you academic independence, unlike giving academic writers your thesis to do it for you. You risk failing during the oral defense and probably never graduating.
The secrets to a successful thesis(probably what we don't learn in class) lie in the following five aspects, which brings us to the main agenda. I will make a disclaimer here, I am not a brand ambassador for any brands /website mentioned in this article and haven't received any token. First, a good thesis demands a thorough literature review. Research shows that desk review is the most stressful component of any academic project. Here is the most straightforward bonafide website to gather literature to solve the headaches.
- Smart academic search engines such as elicit
- Google Scholar
- ResearchGate
After conducting a literature review, we need to confirm whether the grammar meets the academic threshold. I must admit English non-natives understand what I am saying better. You don't have to worry.
Here is the second tip! Are you worried about paying premium Grammarly fees for performing a check? Simply get a free premium version by using your school email to create a premium Grammarly account (Simple ! right?). There are a few tips for Grammarly; I may have to write another article on the same.
The third is vital for exemplary thesis writing or writing that demands citation. We need to back up our literature with sources. Some institutions require strict referencing styles, such as standard APA, MLA, CHICAGO, etc.
Some students do not get a chance to learn referencing in class and end up stranded. Simply use citefast to help format all your references. Google Scholar also provides references with all major reference styles but lacks some necessary citations. For example, newspapers, articles, and webpage references are not available in google scholar.
So far, so good; the fourth essential tool everyone requires a similarity check software. I promise you Turnitin is universities' trap for catching unaware students. While we may have original ideas, sometimes we borrow other people's /author's work. It is essential to credit other people's work to avoid plagiarism. It could get us into the corridors of justice. I know a supervisor who lost half his salary paying for his student mistakes after the university got sued by the original author. It got so severe that the supervisor never admitted students from the victim's country.
Last and not least, this purely depends on your university or institution. After following the guideline aforementioned, your work should impress the reader. Presentation matters as it catches the reader's attention. With the help of latex, your thesis will impress editors and the audience. Each tool mentioned above deserves proper attention, especially for beginners. I will look at each, depending on your feedback. Kindly feel free to engage me by dropping a comment😊 .
Awesome insight. The part of article, journal, online publishes and newspaper referencing needs through review and a harmonized conclusion asserted to be used globally.
